In 1996, the wife of the General overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God ("RCCG") Pastor (Mrs.) Folu Adeboye (who is the Matron) visited the missions' fields in the West African area.
Her findings can be summarized in one phrase "that the missions urgently required assistance." This led to the birth of the West Committee that focused on assisting all RCCG missions in West African sub- regions by ensuring that they have the basic infrastructure with which to function.
The scope of the committee was enlarged to include the rest of Africa after Pastor (Mrs.) Folu Adeboye again visited the missions in Central, East and South Africa. The name of the committee was changed to African missions committee and now Africa Missions Organisation with chapters in Nigeria, UK, North America, Europe, Canada, and Ireland.
